It started raining at around 4pm today when I woke up. That's the usual time I wake up and start preparing for work. I thought if I let the heavens cry its heart out and wait for about an hour before I start to get ready, it would be easier for me to get out of the "jungle" we usually call a "compound" (my place) and hail an FX and start moving.
You guessed it right, I was wrong.
That made me decide to take my "red baron" Georgia with me, or else, I won't show up at work again. I just came back from the holiday, right? Besides, I have a lot of meetings today (more than one's counted as A LOT, LOL).
And so I rushed off to the shower (spare us the gruesome details, I know) and started the engine. Georgia gave me some signs that she's not willing to go any further, but thank God, I was able to launch my "red baron".
I was already in my workplace's area when Georgia stopped and I can't start the engine back to life. Come on, my brain started saying. I kept praying to God for Georgia to budge, and after a few attempts, she did. I kept thanking Him for that.
A few meters more, Georgia stopped again. In Eastwood, this time. No, I said. Please, no. I turned on the hazard lights on and attempted to start the engine again.
"Ma'am, ayaw pong magstart?" Manong Guard said. I think he looks a bit young, probably Goatie's age.
"Oo eh..." I know I looked worried, worse, harrassed.
"Atras po kaya muna natin, ma'am?" said the Guard again.
So I backed Georgia up...attempted to start her engine and...
"Ma'am, tulak ko po?" He's really trying to help.
"Naku, kuya, hindi mo yata kaya..." mag-isa lang kaya si kuya, ang payat pa!
"Hindi, sige po..." Then he tried to push Georgia. ALL BY HIMSELF.
I tried revving the engine for the nth time...thank God it started this time.
"Ok na." I gave "kuya" a weak smile. He smiled back at me.
My sister used to say that there are angels among us, and they appear in the most unexpected situations. I can't say that "kuya" is an angel, but by the way he tried to help me, I guess he can count as one. I kept thanking the Lord for letting me go to the office safe and is grateful that He was always there when I needed Him.
Manong, salamat at naging matulungin ka kanina. Hindi ko inaakalang may makikita akong "genuine" na intensyong tumulong habang natataranta akong mag-start ng sasakyan ko. Sobrang salamat.
